Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison production office, is tasked with producing DVD special features, behind the scenes exclusives and website content for all of their feature films. Running a 1st generation Xsan digital video solution for capture and export with 11 Final Cut Pro workstations that was inconsistent and troublesome. They were also facing a deadline to move 8 of their workstations into a new office, and connect them to their existing SAN.
CompuTech met Happy Madison’s chief technology officer and came up with a game plan to move their workstations and in the process, re-configure their Xsan installation for maximum performance. This included adding a new fibre channel switch to replace their aging equipment as well as a 2nd fibre channel switch linked via 10Gb fiber to the new office, installing new gigabit switches and setting up a much needed metadata network to route Xsan traffic properly.
After weeks of planning, Happy Madison’s move deadline was unexpectedly changed, and CompuTech jumped into action to make sure the project was completed in the timeframe required. After the installation was complete the editors reported that the SAN was running better than it ever had, with additional speed and none of the inconsistent performance they had experienced in the past.
