Avoid Excessive MacBook Repair Costs

MacBooks are popular computers and their use as day-to-day laptops has increased; sales are up in Apple stores and the MacBook Pro evolves every year. These machines, although high performers as laptops go, are still prone to hardware failure. The most common circumstances are simple breakage, where a MacBook repair shop can swap out damaged parts and have the machine up and running again in no time. Apple stores and Apple retailers on the other hand, may take longer. Many Apple Stores will not take on repairs at all, but pass them on to a local Apple repair center.

MacBook Pro screen repairs are a common request at the average Apple Store. As with all laptop screens, they are delicate and easy to damage if not cared for properly. Another common item that has to be replaced is the keyboard, due to liquid spills or other abuse. An Authorized MacBook repair shop can make repairs for all of these types of damage and have your laptop back in fully working order with guaranteed workmanship.

The Apple MacBook Pro is not known for easy “do-it-yourself” servicing. Like many other modern laptop designs, one wrong move can cause enough damage to make your wallet sting. Motherboard replacements for laptops are not cheap!

MacBook repair costs can be avoided/reduced by:

Have any necessary repairs made by an authorized MacBook or MacBook Pro repair service provider. Their work is guaranteed and you know it will be done properly. Pay only once for a repair!

  • Get your MacBook repair performed locally – When the Apple Store sends your machine away, it costs you money and you have no personal contact with the MacBook Repair/Service provider. Local repairs can be more easily tracked. You can also talk to an engineer about your MacBook and exactly what you need, while getting advice at the same time. And, you can often receive a loaner until your MacBook is ready!
  • Keep your MacBook cool – overheating is a common way to damage batteries and reduce their life. Don’t block the air vent where the fan blows hot air out between the hinges.
  • Make sure cables are tidy before moving your MacBook – picking up the machine with cables attached can put a great deal of strain on the cable ends/sockets and cause expensive damage.
  • Don’t put pens or other objects on the surface of the laptop – closing the lid on objects can easily cause broken hinges, keyboards and screens.

Apple Repair Services – Are They All the Same?

Over the years, the MacBook has undergone a number of operating system and hardware enhancements, a widening of the range and a generally improving product line. What has become confusing in recent years is the number of different labels applied to the various Apple Store and Apple repair services available.

Let’s start with the Apple store or Mac store or Apple retailer. Hmm… Apple dealer?

How about the big title: Authorized Apple dealer?!

It’s a confusing situation, and even more so if you just need a MacBook or MacBook Pro repair or an upgrade – or usually you need both! Many times when Apple MacBook repairs are requested, there is an upgrade of some sort that accompanies the work ticket.

So where should you go for a MacBook or MacBook Pro repair?

An Apple Store will upgrade your Machine for a price; that’s a software upgrade. Most do not touch hardware and when they do, the issue is not the technical abilities of the staff so much as the MacBook repair cost. The repair staff in an Apple Store may only be trained to a certain level with complex repairs or upgrades passed on to outside contractors; Therefore, the tendency for MacBook repair service costs to be high or take longer than expected.

If you want a quality MacBook repair that is not going to be memorable as the “MacBook repair cost that broke the bank”, you need to choose a local authorized Apple repair service. An authorized Apple repair service will allow you the opportunity to hand over your MacBook to an Apple repair technician who is qualified in every aspect of MacBook hardware and software upgrades (rather than a part-qualified Apple Store technician). An Authorized Apple Repair Service Technician is certified by Apple and will take on MacBook warranty repairs.

If you are in the Los Angeles area and need a MacBook Pro repair or a MacBook Pro upgrade, call CompuTech Support Services now and discover how our quality Apple repair services can offer you peace of mind when it comes to your MacBook Pro repair cost. You can monitor your repair online using a loaner machine that we provide! Top Ten Reasons to Avoid the Apple Store for your Mac Repairs

If you’ve never been to an Apple store, it’s hard to describe the experience, especially on the day a new Apple product is released. For someone who wants to stay current with the latest in Mac technology, there is nothing like a visit to your local Apple store. But ask any Apple computer fan where they would go for a MacBook repair, and you may be surprised at their answer.

While it’s clear that the Apple store is an incredibly successful retail concept, every Mac user should have an alternative for Apple MacBook repair. Whether you use an iMac, MacBook, iPad or an older Apple computer, an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) is usually the better option. Here’s why.

  1. At the risk of stating the obvious, any trip to the Apple store may result in a long wait, especially on weekends.  Avoid the long lines and get your Mac repair work done by an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP).
  2. When you start working with a reliable Apple repair technician that you can trust, it’s nice to know you can call them and ask questions later.  At the Apple store, you probably won’t meet the technician.
  3. If you’re the kind of person who is easily tempted to buy the latest gadget, then limiting the time you spend at the Apple store is probably a smart idea.
  4. An Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) will give you more of their time, so you can ask other Mac support-related questions that are on your mind.
  5. Do you have other computers that need to be fixed?  Chances are, your Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) is also Microsoft certified and can help you with both.
  6. Looking for unbiased expert opinions? Since certified Mac repair specialists like CompuTech Support Services don’t resell computers, you will be sure to get unbiased opinions on which products to buy and the best places to buy them.
  7. If you need a quick turnaround on an Apple repair, your Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) may be a lot more flexible with scheduling your repair than the Apple store.
  8. Save money on out-of-warranty Mac repairs by dealing with an independent repair shop.
  9. An Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) can perform work that an Apple store is prohibited from doing, such as the installation of non-Apple parts, hard drive upgrades and screen replacements.
  10. You can be sure a certified Apple technician will handle your Mac repair, because an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) must meet very high standards for service and must be recertified every year.

Need a MacBook Repair? Or Just a Memory Upgrade

One common feature of computers is that upgrading the memory will nearly always result in a faster machine. The original MacBook came with 2GB of memory. Basic versions of all MacBooks, including the MacBook Pro versions, come from your local Apple reseller with 2GB as standard, with many models featuring 4GB.

With dual memory slots, a MacBook can be upgraded by an authorized MacBook or MacBook Pro repair center to double existing memory to a maximum of 8GB. The benefits of going in for an Apple repair service and memory upgrade include:

The knowledge that your new parts are installed properly by authorized MacBook repair technicians whose work is guaranteed.

Faster data streaming -extra memory helps to keep the flow of data constant and to avoid screen freezes that typically occur when watching videos and other CPU intensive work.

Faster boot up – The system has more “space” to pre-load the operating system at boot time.

Reduced disk wear – When systems are memory deficient, they have to use the hard disk as a means of gaining extra memory space. The activity of moving data back and forth can cause a huge performance penalty as the system gets tied up with disk read/write operations.

The biggest effect is improved all-round performance – For a variety of reasons, machines respond well to additional memory and can function significantly faster as a result. An Apple reseller or Authorized Apple Repair Service provider will carry all the memory modules required for an upgrade.

There are good reasons why your MacBook memory upgrade should be handled by an Authorized Apple Reseller or Apple repair service provider; Different MacBook versions require different memory modules. Inserting the incorrect module can either damage the main board or produce unpredictable operating results. Choosing a reputable Apple reseller or Authorized Apple Repair Service Center means you can be confident that not only is the correct memory being added, it is from an Apple-approved source that meets the specifications required by the MacBook’s operating system and hardware. Apple resellers and Apple Repair Service Centers carry only Apple approved parts for replacement or upgrades.

So before visiting your Apple reseller for an expensive MacBook repair, maybe a memory upgrade at your local Authorized Apple Repair Service Center will cure the problem. If you are in the Los Angeles, West LA, Santa Monica, or Hollywood, area you can visit CompuTech Support Services’ Authorized Apple Repair Service Center. Best Way to Sync Data between All Your Apple Devices – MobileMe or Google Sync?

Ever since Google started testing Google Sync two years ago, new Mac users left the Mac store wondering, “Which is the better option… to spend the $99 per year on Apple’s MobileMe application, or skip the expense and use Google Sync for free?”  Surprisingly, even with the recent rise of Google smart phones, Google Calendar and Google Docs, many Mac support experts still recommend MobileMe.

In case you’re unfamiliar or you haven’t already been sold on MobileMe at the Mac store, MobileMe is an application that automatically syncs your iPhone, MacBook or Mac desktop, iPod and iPad.  It is particularly helpful with email, contacts and calendar info, but also includes 20 GB or online storage space.  Since the application belongs to Apple, it’s no surprise to find that your Mac store, Apple support website and many Mac support professionals recommend it – but is it really worth $99 per year?

Now that Google Sync is able to accomplish the same thing on Droid phones, PCs, and any other laptop – as well as Macintosh computers and devices – MobileMe may be losing ground among longtime subscribers.  On the other hand, Apple stands to gain revenue from SmartPhone buyers who like the flexibility of using their cherished Gmail and Google applications on a new iPhone.  Now, thanks to Google Sync, iPhone users who want to access their Gmail and Google Calendar no longer need to go through iTunes or a third-party software application; they can sync up their Google contacts or calendar entries quickly and easily.

So why do so many of the support specialists at the Mac store still insist on MobileMe over Google Sync?  Much of it has to do with habit, but there is still the benefit that comes from MobileMe’s integration with all the other products for sale at the Mac store.  Sure, you can still use Google to sync data between most devices, but for someone who is already accustomed to MobileMe, Google Sync may seem a bit cumbersome.  And let’s face it; we all know how much Mac users enjoy the purity of using “all things Apple”.
