Did you know you can easily take screenshots of your Mac, using built in keyboard commands in Mac OS X? Well, you can, and they are more flexible than you might think!
To take a screenshot of your entire screen, simply hit Command-Shift-3 – Your screenshot will appear on your Desktop titled Picture 1 (or Picture 2, or 3 etc. depending on how many screenshots you have already taken.
But that’s not all you can do, the real power and flexibility of the built in tools lies in another set of commands!
Hit Command-Shift-4 and you’ll get a pair of crosshairs, position them over your start point and drag them out to capture whatever is inside that area!
Need to take a screenshot of just one window? Hit Command-Shift-4, then hit the spacebar (you’ll see a camera icon appear) position the camera on the window you want to screenshot and click the mouse button and you’ve captured that window in a screenshot.
There are great 3rd party applications like Snapz Pro that offer more options with screenshots, but for basic everyday use the built in commands work great!
